Anxiety & Depression is more common than you may think

Statistics show that one in four Americans have experienced anxiety or depression at some point in their life.  These symptoms are much more common than a person may think.  Depression and anxiety can vary from mild to severe with various combinations of symptoms. Many people wait until these symptoms have impacted their life before seeking out support. Our therapists are here to help at any point in a person’s journey with anxiety and depression.

Symptoms of an anxiety disorder may include*:

  • Restlessness or feeling wound-up or on edge
  • Being easily fatigued
  • Difficulty concentrating or having their minds go blank
  • Irritability
  • Muscle tension
  • Difficulty controlling the worry
  • Sleep problems (difficulty falling or staying asleep or restless, unsatisfying sleep)

Symptoms of depression may include*:

  • Persistent sad, anxious, or “empty” mood
  • Feelings of hopelessness, or pessimism
  • Irritability
  • Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, or helplessness
  • Loss of interest or pleasure in hobbies and activities
  • Decreased energy or fatigue
  • Moving or talking more slowly
  • Feeling restless or having trouble sitting still
  • Difficulty concentrating, remembering, or making decisions
  • Difficulty sleeping, early-morning awakening, or oversleeping
  • Appetite and/or weight changes
  • Thoughts of death or suicide, or suicide attempts
  • Aches or pains, headaches, cramps, or digestive problems without a clear physical cause and/or that do not ease even with treatment

If you experience any or a combination of these symptoms, our clinician at Minnesota Mental Health Clinic may be able to help and provide support. Our clinicians are experienced with adults, children, and adolescents with symptoms of anxiety and depression.
