Gender & Identity – LGBTQQA+

Gender may begin with the assignment of our sex at birth, however it does not end there.  There are many interrelationship factors that impact the dimensions of a person’s gender:

1.

Our body, the experiences of our own body, society’s view of the gender of our body, and how others interact with us based on our bodies

2.

Our identity, the internal sense of self as male, female, blend of both, or neither and who we internally know ourselves to be

3.

Our expression in how we present ourselves and our gender to society, to our community, culture, family and to the world.  How we try to shape our gender and interact with others.  Gender expression is related to the gender roles we seek and how society uses those roles to apply traditionalism to current gender norms

Your sexual orientation and gender are important parts of who you are. Learning more about gender, gender identity, and sexual orientation can help you understand yourself and the world around you.
