Groundbreakers – Social Skills Connection Group
Groundbreakers is a Social Skills-focused program designed to help children and adolescents who are struggling socially. All groups meet one time per week. The groups are designed for those who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder; however, other diagnoses that lead to struggles in social settings may also be appropriate. Examples include ADHD or anxiety.
There are 3 different groups available based upon age and developmental level. Current age groups that are offered are:
Age 8 – 10
Wednesdays
4:30pm – 5:30pm
Age 10 – 12
Wednesdays
6:00pm – 7:00pm
Age 13 – 17
Thursdays
5:30pm – 7:00pm
Appropriate candidates for the group should be able to maintain physical safety towards themselves and others and can function appropriately in a small group setting.
All groups are offered at the Apple Valley location only.
Group Focus
The groups for ages 8 – 10 and 10 – 12 are highly structured with fun activities that revolve around a weekly topic. Primary skills taught are those regarding:

- Emotion regulation
- Anger management
- Conflict resolution
- Self-advocacy
- Self-care
- Friendships
- Bullying
- Embracing uniqueness
- Finding strengths
- Dating/romantic relationships
